Extract from an Insignificant Story, 2008

This project utilizes a constructive, calculated and controlled approach to image creation that is very much reliant upon attention to detail. Focus is cast on contemplative and melancholy moments that retain a strong sense of emotion, reworking these small gestures into a contemporary vision that incorporates ideas of simulation, imitation and replication. Great Importance is placed upon the casting of characters who are specifically chosen for their style and presence, and through the integration of narrative elements the subtle aspects of personality are tweaked. Much reference is derived from painting and an importance placed on body language too, my intention being to create a voyeuristic style that explores seemingly personal and insignificant events. Further, the identification and utilization of posture not pose, is a deliberate attempt to bring greater reality to these representations, infusing them mildly with the language of fashion to create a unique and personal approach to portraiture.
