Narcissus # 1, 2009

Narcissus # 1 is a painting that plays with interacting ideas of surface, skin, mirrors and reflections. It abstracts from and makes reference to baroque painting. It employs visual metaphors of metaphors in order to elude what might have been an expected narrative but also to provoke or resuscitate other meanings and connections. Subtle asymmetries and near symmetries underpin the structure of the painting whilst suggesting a reflected image.
