The Thing We Do On The Day Unites Us, 2009

The Thing We Do On The Day Unites Us was a commissioned work from East Street Arts, as part of their collection of creative happenings which took place in Leeds during May and June 2009.

The title of the work resulted from DEMO, a workshop that explored the question 'What Unites Artists?'

Following DEMO, visitors to Barkston Studios, Leeds, on 26 and 27 June, were asked to respond to the statement 'The Thing We Do On The Day Unites Us' in one to one discussions with me, and by recording their responses on paper.

Although the theme of the original workshop focused on what united - or did not - artists, it was stressed that 'The Thing' might not necessarily be concerned with art.

It is planned that a selection of these responses, and documentation from the DEMO workshop will be published.
