Appointed Lead Artist in 2005 by Tynedale Council to work with GLR Architects on the proposed new swimming pool in Hexham. After undertaking local research in Hexham, I devised a proposal that would raise the historical profile of the site of the swimming pool, formally known as Hall Orchard. Hexham was famed for its orchards and nurseries, though this is little referenced in contemporary publications on Hexham. I have therefore, referenced the notion of an orchard by photographing trees reflected in water. These images were used to form the proposal. A large glass wall within the changing room area was identified as the prime location for a glazed curtain wall. The image was also used for smaller windows overlooking the swimming pool and at the front lobby entrance of the building. In addition to the glazing, I was also asked to translate the art work into designs for internal and external signage. The work was completed and the leisure centre opened to the public in 2008.
