'Dear Tom; A Chapter founded upon common Observations, in which is contained a few curious Matters' (2009) forms part of 'The Politics in the Room'; the public project of the first year of the LUX Associate Artists Programme. It takes the form of eight video episodes, loosely structured around a comment by the American artist Gregg Bordowitz (a guest speaker on the programme) that questioned not what constitutes politics in general but rather what are the politics of the room you are in. Each of the episodes reflects on the experience and content of the programme from the separate yet interlinking perspectives of its eight participants. The videos were released two per week between 16th March 2009 and 12th April 2009. All eight videos now remain on the site.

'Dear Tom; A Chapter founded upon common Observations, in which is contained a few curious Matters' (2009) is an abstract on psychoanalysis. The visual aspect of the film, structured in chapters, displays a sequential arbitrary collection of various scribbled notes, post-its and paraphernalia; items found by the artist that have been left inside a selection of psychoanalysis books in libraries.

Utilising the remnants of thoughts and markers left by previously unknown readers, the film attempts to piece together the unconscious association between the reader’s items and the texts in the books they might refer to, whether deliberate or incidental. The relationship between image and text, voiced by a fictive narrator, is sometimes fitting and at other times out of place.
