Still from 'Night Shot', 2007 - 2008

This is one frame from a film which I am currently working on using rough stop-motion animation. Previously I have made other short films with charcoal and chalk on photographs, but this time, I am experimenting with using oil paint on board or photograph as a medium. For the background to this scene I have used a frame of a 'night shot' news film as a starting point. the original image has been transformed and developed, and will be combined with other sequences, (both live action and animation) to make a short film. The film-making process can result in the by-product of a painting, but many images get destroyed as part of the working method. In this work one of the themes I am exploring is the greenish colour aesthetic born of 'night vision' photography. As part of the film, this and related images will be further manipulated to extend this kind of quality.
