"The Mirror" - Tarkovsky's River, - 2008

C-type colour print from negative

From series TARKOVSKY'S RIVER

-------------------------------------

"Tarkovsky's River" is about a journey into landscape, into the deep heart of a place

where the river is as wide as a sea, where skies are vast and time stands still. A journey into collective memory that holds within it the interconnectedness of man and the natural world.

Tarkovsky's River” brings together images that refer in substance to the films of Andrei Tarkovsky. Tracing a river journey along the Upper Volga to Yureyvits, birthplace and childhood home of the film-maker, it is about going into a deeper sense of the land, and of time itself, which is where Tarkovsky takes us.

The project encompasses:

  • A slide-show of over 150 photographs taken from 35mm slides, with narrative;
  • A single chanel DV video;
  • And a series of 36 prints, of which this is one.
The slide show has been exhibited at PHOTOCINEMA, the Forum Festival of Photography 2009.
The book Tarkovsky's River is available on http://www.tarkovskysriver.comThe work is available for exhibition.
