Hide, 2006

A scaled-down birdwatching hide was situated at several public locations around Hull over several days. The locations were chosen for their relationship to leisure and time. The park, the pier, the shopping centre. The artist occupied the (very visible) hide, and annotated objectively what she saw. Members of the public engaging in conversation about the activity were invited to participate. Some did. The aim was to create a dialogue about the nature of the spaces we go to relax, how we share and interact in them, and the nature of watching and being watched. Surveillance of our public spaces by cameras became a subject of discussions.
