“One of the exciting things about getting to create work for a museum is my right, as an artist, to share my own playful take on the historic significance of the museum. Seemingly unimportant elements can be represented and re-interpreted by these kinetic sculptures, through the objects, movements and sounds that are incorporated.” (Matt Cook, Unaffected Alterations proposal) An electronic sculpture was suspended nine metres through the 17th century stairwell at the Foundling in central London. Encountered as a living, breathing organism from a distance, to reveal a collection of uniquely fascinating objects up close, the sculpture frequently broke the silence with a cacophony of sounds and give visitors new ways to experience the museum by distorting their viewpoint.Commissioned for RSVP contemporary artists at the Foundling, initiated by Commissions East, curated by Gill Hedley and funded by Arts Council England, East.
