Shrine to the Free Spirit, 2007

An artwork created for the Untitled Group's project, SHRINE 2007.

SHRINE is part of a larger project entitled TRAVELLERS. Travellers is work in progress - our attempt to pay homage to itinerant peoples as well as the persecuted, the lost and the discarded. This group of highly embellished soft toys also symbolises a search for lost opportunities or lost youth. These soft toys were all found in charity shops. They seem to us to have acquired nomadic properties and by embroidering and buttoning them we pay tribute to their unknown histories and reinvent them as beautiful objects.

16cm x 10cm
