Teleconnection Teledirection, 2007

A day-long performance walk for two people, carried out using a series of rules devised beforehand. The effect of these rules was that every time the leader turned left or right, or stopped, or doubled back during their walk, they texted this direction to the follower. Essentially it was two classic Situationist drifts being carried out in parallel and linked together by means of the text messages. The rules: Begin back to back, mobile phones in hand. The leader explores the city in any direction, and at whatever pace they choose. Every time the leader turns left or right, doubles back, pauses or resumes their walk, they text this direction to the follower. The follower may only act on instructions received from the leader. The role of leader is swapped every 15 minutes. Neither follower nor leader may enter any building.
