Stefanos Pavlakis

In Memories of the Signified (2006) an archive has been appropriated and drawn into space. The work is concerned with the relation of word to meaning, examining the latter as geography. Memories of the Signified is a drawing in sound for which Pavlakis borrows all verbs indicating departure or assimilation from the Oxford Dictionary and treats them as spectres materialising in space. The work visits border passages, ports and waiting places in an attempt to channel meanings through memories of place.
