Captain James Cook was a great navigator and explorer. During three long voyages his dutiful wife sat at home waiting for his return. Cook was applauded for his actions but his wife spent her life dealing with tragedy. Elizabeth Cook lived on after all her six children had died, either in infancy or through tragic circumstances. Even her devoted husband, was eventually killed by natives in Hawaii. This image is a tribute to Elizabeth Cook. The bag she made from her wedding dress. The button was from her husbands jacket. The teacup was aboard the Endeavour on the first voyage. Unfortunately there are doubts about the provenance, hence 'Said to be'. I have become deeply involved with the lives of James and Elizabeth and motivated to produce this work. It is the culmination of years of reading and research.
