Slinky, 2004

New Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital.

A stainless steel, spiral tower rising to a height of 12 meters.  This piece is inspired by the Slinky wire toy, which has been and continues to be a favourite with generations of children and many adults also.  The tower situated in an internal courtyard will be visible from many departments, waiting areas, wards, treatment rooms and circulation routes.  At night the Slinky Tower transforms into a light drawing in space through the use of fibre-optic cable of light along the entire spiral line.  The slowly changing colours will quietly almost imperceptibly blend from one to another creating a sense of mystery.

Dimensions: 12.142 m x 2.120 diameter

stainless steel, side-emitting fiber optics

£40000
