Land Lock Gypsy Rose Flower of Scotland 17-26.03.05, 2005

Method: Layered shapes of pattern and colour created by cutting into overlapping fabric, which is then turned under and carefully stitched in place, by hand, so that the stitches are invisible from the positive side.  This wall-mounted work is map, logo, religious symbol and national emblem combined. It is inspired by the subconscious power of visual symbols that can evoke, sometimes mixed, feelings of national, regional, cultural and religious pride, identity and belonging.
