Karen Babayan
Blood Oranges Dipped in Salt, 2012
An Artist's Book of fictionalized family stories, spanning a timeline of 400 years and the geography of three continents. The book tells the history of the Armenians of Iran through stories passed down from word of mouth and retold in the 'here and now' whilst retaining something of the original spirit of the story. The book describes the experiences of migration, displacement and assimilation from Armenia to Iran in the late 1600's, political upheaval and genocide in the early 1900's and immigration to the West, following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
