Southampton’s Lost District: A Landscape Re-discovered.

‘Collate & present historic & contextual influences which may inform the design process & realisation of a project to regenerate the public realm around Southampton Central Station’.

Project Artist Chris Tipping has undertaken a detailed investigation into the neighbourhood’s geography, natural and social history, ecology and culture to uncover hidden structures, which inform the area’s current form, identity & reputation. This site-specific & research-led activity has driven the creative concept & rationale which now not only underpins the general spatial layout, character and interpretation of the site, but specific design & artistic interventions within its boundaries.
Many of the concept inspirations were further developed through a process of exchange & collaboration into a series of overarching aspirations for the site. Some of these have been finally realised in the design concepts.
