Rosie Kearton

Painting in the attic , 1961 - 2012

This is an oil painting I did when I was 16 years old, 50 years ago, and which recently came to light after spending many years hanging in my parents home and then forgotten, wrapped in brown paper in the attic. I am now carrying out a forensic investigation of the 'painting in the attic' by scraping away the oil paint to reveal....... well who knows! What will remain is a trace I hope - just like the trace that's left, of that 16 year old girl, me, who painted it fifty years ago! I am collecting the pigment that I take away in a matchbox and subsequently test tubes.
A further part of this project is a collaborative project where I have invited people to send an artwork from their childhood and to reflect on any connections with their present creativity.
