Artist Statement

In 1998 I visited Greenland with the intention of producing a body of work that would somehow communicate something of the incredulous reality of life in such a harsh environment. The resulting body of work - 'Sea & Sky' is in fact a very peaceful description of my own response to the impossible distance, personal history and culture placed upon me. 'Stone and man' is a body of work made in Llanberis in North Wales. Climbing brought me to the lost worlds of the Llanberis / Dinorwig slate - strangely disfigured - landscape, a necessary environment for both the quarryman and climber alike, the functional symbiosis of the rock face is remaining poignantly silent about its economic shift. Most recent, is work titled 'Shooting The Past', a series of images generated alongside an archaeological project located in the landscape of a Cistercian Abbey, Strata Florida, Wales, UK that sets out to explore the changing landscape and its past meaning. The images incorporate ideas of psycho-geography, a narrative engaging fact and the imagination in conjunction with the geographical location reflecting its history.
