Charlotte Harker

London
Artist with a drawing and printmaking based practice and writer of prose and poetry

Drawing is at the heart of my art practice. I approach drawing from the point of view of process. Drawing demands mindfulness and being present. I concentrate on incidental details and the quality of the mark. An open interpretation is important too because it allows the viewer to bring their own narrative. At the same time each of my drawn and printed images are of particular places and viewpoints I have visited and closely observed. The drawings and prints have a duality. Specific and open simultaneously. My landscapes are repositories. They are a diary and a recollection and most importantly they are a reminder to me of the present.

I write short form prose and poetry often accompanied or inspired by drawings. This work adopts the understated and deadpan to depict absurd and poignant situations and incidents both imagined, invented and also informed by personal experience.
